Children’s Day made even more special by Amway.
For an organisation that focuses on educating underprivileged children, Children’s Day is understandably one of the most important days of the year. It’s a day when the kids can break away from the daily grind of course work and display their talents in arts, music and dance for everyone to see. This 14th November, however, was made even more special because it was the 10 year anniversary of Deepalaya’s association with one of its most valued sponsor, Amway.
The celebration was held at the DSKE auditorium and the day started with the students of Deepalaya School Sanjay Colony welcoming the delegation from Amway, led by Mr. Mr. Anshu Budhraj. Once inside, the Amway officials were greeted by the principals of the two schools and by the Deepalaya’s board members, Mr. Abraham and Mr. Sakhi John. Mr. Budhiraj took the stage and talked about the need for educating the future generation, especially the girl child and expressed pride in being associated with an organisation that ensures a 50:50 boy to girl ratio at its schools. He ended his message by presenting a cheque of 1.3 lac to Ms. Shikha Pal, principal of DSSC, for sponsorship of an additional 14 students. The group then proceeded to start the celebration by lighting the lamp.
The first act of the day was a series of songs by the students of Deepalaya School Sanjay Colony. They entertained the crowd with their melodious voices synchronizing in perfect harmony. Following the song was a dance performance based on popular Bollywood and western numbers that left the audience spellbound. A quiz competition wrapped up the day’s events and was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and the dignitaries alike.
Even though the day came to end with the prize distribution ceremony, it started a new chapter in the lives of the fourteen underprivileged children and in the relationship between Deepalaya and Amway, who now proceed into the next decade of their partnership with heads held high and vision bright with possibilities.
