Deepalaya’s friends from the overseas

Having existed in the development sector for more than 35 years, Deepalaya has worked hand-in-hand with underprivileged women, youth and children in the slums of Delhi and the rural villages of Haryana, U.P. and Uttarakhand. In order to better the lives of our beneficiaries, we used Education and Vocational Training as tools to help emancipate the oppressed from the shackles of illiteracy and poverty.

The underprivileged children studying at RJRN Deepalaya school in Delhi put up a cultural performance for dignitaries from Netherlands. Over the years, as we have grown, the word about our work has spread not only to the different corners of India, but also to foreign nations. Through careful networking and relationship building, we have been fortunate to associate with individuals and organizations in countries such as Germany, U.S.A., U.K and the Netherland.

One such long cherished relationship is with Ms. Danielle Brink, who has been a staunch supporter of the Deepalaya School RJRND in South Delhi.

That is why when Ms. Danielle Brink planned to visit India, it was our pleasure to host her and show them the school campus that she has helped prosper. Ms. Brink visited the campus with her daughter on 12th November 2014, and was greeted to an enthusiastic response by the students. Since she has visited the project many times, she was already a familiar and a much loved face among the student population, who welcomed her with flowers and huge smiles on their faces.

Ms. Danielle Brink, her daughter and senior executives from Deepalaya at the RJRND school in Panchsheel Enclave, DelhiMr. T.K. Mathew, the Chief Executive of Deepalaya met with Ms. Brink personally and took her on a tour of the campus, this was followed by an interactive session with the students and the teachers.

With the introductions and discussions finally completed, the teachers and the visiting dignitaries were treated to an awe inspiring dance and music performance from the students. The tiny tots never fail to impress, but this time, the dance performance on the popular Bollywood number – ‘Lungi Dance’ elicited both laughter and fervent applause.

The day ended with Laura, Ms. Brink’s daughter, distributing refreshment packages among the students.

All in all, a great day for everyone at Deepalaya school RJRND.
