An emotional homecoming from the US
Vishal has been a student of Deepalaya School right from his young age. He studied from Deepalaya School Kalkaji Extension and passed his Secondary School examination (CBSE) from the same school. After completing his Senior Secondary he enrolled in Delhi University in the commerce stream. But he was more interested in music. He says, “From my first initiation into the choir group of Deepalaya School my interest in music was created. I had successfully done lots of performances for the school and our choir group had also performed in front of our then reputed Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dixit during commonwealth games in 2010.”
When he got the chance to apply for the CCIP scholarship program, Vishal was making music albums. He had already done eight single albums. He had opened a home studio and was learning on his own from You Tube. After the rigorous selection process of CCIP, when he received the scholarship and the opportunity to go to Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA to study Media, he was elated.
In the USA during the 10 months of his stay, he successfully studied for two semesters. He learnt about Radio, Video film making, Photography and also learnt to experiment with music and create sound effects. He says it was a great learning experience. There he made friends and imbibed the best things from the US Culture and also shared the values of Indian culture.
Life in the US was not that easy as far as accommodation and food was concerned. The college assigned him a small dormitory room with a roommate and no cooking facility. He had to eat from the college cafeteria. Being a pure vegetarian, it was very difficult for him to have cafeteria food. He says, “The very smell from the cafeteria was sickening.” Gradually he adjusted and by the time it was time for him to come back to India he had learnt to eat, chicken, pork and even beef.
Vishal comes from a lower middle class Family. He has one brother and one sister. They are both younger to him. His mother works in a cosmetic store and his father sells agrbattis (incense sticks).
Vishal says America is a great country. It is very clean and beautiful. He would love to spend the rest of his life there. While in the US, he saved money and travelled extensively. He went to California, New York, Arizona, Florida and many other places.
He says, “Now that I am in India, I want to study and make a career for myself in the music world, or in hotel management. I wish to donate to Deepalaya for the good cause that Deepalaya is working for, from some of the savings I made from my scholarship money I received in the USA.
Deepalaya has given me wings to fly and be a confident, good human being. I will remain ever indebted to Deepalaya.”
