Killing two birds with one stone

With the Government observing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 2 -- the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji, children residing at Deepalaya Childrens’ home took oath on 2nd October 2015 to clean their surroundings. Children were briefed about the doctrines of Gandhian philosophy and their relevance today.

Thereafter, Mr. John Rameson, the project in charge, urged the children to stand up for the values promoted by the Father of Nation and work for the prosperity of our country. Children joined hands enthusiastically and committed themselves towards promoting the "Swachchhata" of our mother land, beginning from their home.

Thereafter, members of the internal Children Welfare Committee divided the children into seven groups - Team flora, Evergreen, Fantastic ten, Hardy Boys, Top eleven, Butterfly, and Special twelve.

Each group comprised of 10 to 12 children with one staff. The boy in charge of gardening Azmatullah instructed them to go in different parts of the premises and announced that two groups, which clean the campus first, will be given prizes. Abbas and Mr. Rajesh (agricultural staff) were asked to judge and announce the winner.

Children worked wholeheartedly and cleaned the campus. Special Twelve and the Evergreen group stood first and second respectively. Children were served cold drinks with biscuits as refreshment. The idea was to kill two birds with one stone – sensitizing the children about promoting cleanliness in a fun-filled manner.
