Killing two birds with one stone
At times, things get too complex. In fact we complicate them despite the fact that they can be simpler. This is the way, The Green Room, an organization formed by young entrepreneurs, operates. Deepalaya has collaborated with the Green Room for conducting a few workshops with children at our learning centers located at Sanjay Colony, Bhalaswa, Haiderpur, Adrash Nagar and Wazirpur. The workshops are being conducted for two months with two workshops each in a week through a dedicated team of volunteers from different colleges. The workshops act as a training for the college students and a learning for the children as well. The project is named as “Project Aashayein” with an objective of providing holistic development of underprivileged kids by supplementing their routine curriculum with interactive activities and workshops to make them aware on different issues and equip them with a certain set of skills at the same time.
The first workshop was conducted at all the centers on 4th February 2016. The session was divided into four activities. The ice breaking session was conducted with a motive to mingle with the children. They were asked what is their favorite hobby, song etc. The next activity was called ball in the court. The volunteers asked a question to one child, who answered and was asked to throw the ball to another child in the group and ask another question. The question related to anything from things they love to eat to what they like to wear. The activity helped the kids in knowing each other better. After about half an hour, the children were divided into different groups with one volunteer each to interact with the group. In each group kids were numbered. The kids with even number wrote their names on a piece of paper and folded it. The kids with odd numbers were asked to pick a chit. The child whose chit is picked becomes buddy of the second child. Then the buddies were asked to make a cap together. The children learnt how tasks can be completed easily and quickly by helping each other.
