Spreading warmth amongst the underprivileged
Abercrombie and Kent (A & K) one of the world’s largest o travel companies has been associated with Deepalaya since 2005. Over these years, the agency has brought several visitors to Deepalaya. Some of the visitors later on continued to support our cause. The company is also supporting for education of 60 students enrolled in the centre. On 5th of October 2016 a group of 6 people from Wisconsin USA visited Ramditti J R Narang Deepalaya Learning Centre. It was the family’s first visit to India.
The group was given a traditional welcome which was appreciated by them as they had never experienced. Ms. Shikha informed them about Deepalaya and the work that the organization is doing for the poor. They were impressed to hear how education has impacted the lives of children living in the most difficult circumstances and how Deepalaya has helped 20 children in studying in the US and 19 students have become nurses, something that they could not even dream of.
After the brief introduction, they were taken on a tour of the building. They saw the library, the kindergarten classes and class I and II. The students recited rhymes to greet the family. One of the ladies in the group simply loved the LKG students. She made each and every child sit on her lap, stroked their hair and kissed them. She herself has seven children she said.
The visitors had brought a few gifts for donation for the kids. Unfortunately, the packet was with the customs. Once it gets the clearance, ANK will deliver the gifts to Deepalaya. They also asked how they can support the children. Ms. Shikha apprised them about different options that are available for promoting education and sponsoring the education of children. They promised to donate for a few children from the US. Ms. Shikha also explained different sponsorship schemes given in the response coupon from the Newsletter. The visitors were happy to interact with the children.
