The Week of Celebrations

We’ve all heard “Champions are not born; they are made”. As long as the finish line is ahead, we always have the ability to shape our life no matter who we are. The Previous week was undeniably the week of Deepalaya’s kids aka the champions of Deepalaya. The children have made us proud by reaching unprecedented heights in every imaginable field. We salute our strength, our children! Deepalaya has shattered established myths by showing that quality and quantity can co-exist and the able and the Differently-abled can work together. The students of the Special Unit have been making Deepalaya proud by their tireless attempt academically as well as in extra-curricular. On 10th November, 09, fourteen students from the Special Unit participated in the Winter Games organized by HCPA and Special Olympics Bharat at Sneh Kunj, New Delhi. The event was organized in different categories i.e. Soft Ball Throw, Fast Ball Throw, 50 M Run, 50M Walk, 10 M Assist Walk and Painting competition etc. Hearing Impaired, Rakesh and Aneesh won 1st Prize in the 50m run. In the same sport, Geeta Thapa, a Mentally Challenged was awarded the 3rd Prize. Reena, Digamber, Lalita and Brijesh (All Hearing Impaired) also came out as winners in the Soft Ball Throw. Niyaz’s (Physically Challenged) painting won everybody’s heart adding a feather in his hat yet again. The next day, a Folk Dance was presented by the children at India International Centre. The Students of the Special Unit The next two days were the days of Deepalaya’s Choral Group. Deepalaya’s Choral group sung live at the All India Radio on ‘Public Service Broadcasting Day’ on the occasion of the 62nd Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s first and only Live Broadcast on All India Radio. The 48 children of Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension sung on two Hindi Numbers i.e. ‘Taaqat Watan Ki Humse hai’ and ‘Hum Honge Kamyab’. To know more about their delightful performance visit - Children’s day was celebrated with great fervor as the students of Deepalaya Schools presented a cultural event full of folk dances, qawalis, play, songs which struck all the students, teachers and parents that were present as audience. On the same day, the Social Entrepreneurs celebrated their 1st Annual day and sung the vibrant Deepalaya’s Mission Song to a houseful auditorium. A majestic brand from the business world- Hotel Maurya Sherton (ITC Group), associated its name with Deepalaya by adorning the role of our food and catering partners for the day. Their services spiced up the platter for everyone present. From the glint in the eyes of the many students dressed in colorful outfits enjoying the celebration, one could tell it was an occasion which would stay in their minds for a long time to come. A rare amalgamation of adults and children delighting in the joyous celebration of Children’s Day was witnessed at Deepalaya School, Sanjay Colony, where the Amway Opportunity Foundation hosted a gala carnival for the children. Mr. Anshu Budhraja,Member-Managing Committee and Vice President-Finance, presented the school library with a unique collection of a set of 250 Amar Chitra Katha story books. The Amway team also gifted some toys to the tiny tots and sung a song for the children.

A group of students from Kalka Public School joined the Deepalaya kids at Sanjay Colony for celebration as a part of their sensitization programme. Apart from this the ‘Education on Wheels’ buses trailed across Shalimar Bagh and the adjoining areas to mobilize and gather 200 odd children who were part of the day long celebratory event.
