On the 5th of April 2017, Sanjay colony had a school team from UK visiting Deepalaya. The entire team of boys ranged from students studying in 7th grade and up. They are a part of their school cricket team. They came to India to play friendly matches with various academies. The team visited Deepalaya to get an understanding as to how charity organizations in India work. The team was briefed about Deepalaya – and the sectors of its interventions in the four states of India. Later they visited classes and interacted with the students. They danced and sang with Deepalaya children and staff also. They were brought along by a Travel group- Earthen Experiences. This travel group has sponsored two students of class I- Sakhsi and Shweta from SCLC. Mr. Raees from Earthen Experiences met the girls and was happy to see them.
Menstrual hygiene is still a taboo subject to discuss and talk about in Indian society. Deepalaya has been actively working in this area through different initiatives linked with women-empowerment and awareness about their rights. It is in this context that a project for manufacturing sanitary napkins and creating awareness on the issue has been set up in Dwarka. One of its key activities is to spread the word about the unit in different areas and to make people aware how a cheaper solution can protect women from several diseases and infections. One such awareness session was conducted on 21st March, 2017 in the slums of Noida, where a girl child education project and a vocational training center is located.
