Deepalaya Shines!

‘Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind’- Rudyard Kipling

Deepalaya is a non - government development organization working on issues affecting the urban and rural poor, with a special focus on children. It is because ‘Every child deserves a chance’ that the organization exists and works towards making that possible. For the past 30 years Deepalaya has been working in the urban slums of Delhi and has also made inroads into rural development in the states of Haryana and Uttarakhand.

Deepalaya recently participated in the 2009 Indiya Shine Awards. GreatNonprofits, Little Star and Guide Star had teamed up to launch the 2009 Indiya Shine Awards in order to recognize the top- rated non-profits that are making a difference in India or within the Indian community abroad. The contest took place during the period of Sep 20th to Oct 20th with over 70 Non Profit Organizations participating. Deepalaya turned out to be a strong contender among the various Non Profit Organizations serving India and Indian communities abroad. Although Deepalaya did not win the contest but the appreciation and positive reception it received from its various associates in the form of feedback is more than winning a trophy and has motivated the team to achieve more and more. The love and care that people have showered on through their reviews about Deepalaya makes the team of Deepalaya feel proud, stronger and motivated towards the issue of education and several other areas of intervention like health care, vocational training, gender equity and women empowerment etc. Deepalaya is thankful to all those who have been a part of our endeavors and feel PROUD about being associated with Deepalaya.
