At a time when rape cases are on a rise in Delhi NCR region, Project STEADY initiated by Kasna plant of Asian Paints Limited under their CSR activities and implemented by Deepalaya, a Delhi-based NGO seeks to empower girls to put up a fight during untoward circumstances.
It is the third year of Project STEADY. Deepalaya and Asian Paints have reached out to 392 girls studying in schools located in Dankour block of Greater Noida during financial year 2016-17. The girls in return trained 3083 in their schools. The idea was to make the project sustainable with making the girls as trainers. The students were given 10 sessions of self-defense training.
On the 5th of April 2017, Sanjay colony had a school team from UK visiting Deepalaya. The entire team of boys ranged from students studying in 7th grade and up. They are a part of their school cricket team. They came to India to play friendly matches with various academies. The team visited Deepalaya to get an understanding as to how charity organizations in India work. The team was briefed about Deepalaya – and the sectors of its interventions in the four states of India. Later they visited classes and interacted with the students. They danced and sang with Deepalaya children and staff also. They were brought along by a Travel group- Earthen Experiences. This travel group has sponsored two students of class I- Sakhsi and Shweta from SCLC. Mr. Raees from Earthen Experiences met the girls and was happy to see them.
