Thirty students of classes IX to XII of Mount St Mary’s school Delhi Cantt. visited Sanjay Colony on 3rd November 2017 to interact and understand the needs of the learners coming from the poor families. They wanted to understand the children, see the way they learn and the kind of opportunities given by Deepalaya to the children to grow up to be valued citizens of India. Ms. Shikha Pal gave a short introduction of Deepalaya and its work.
Thereafter, they divided themselves into two groups. One group interacted with students of class I and the other with class II. Later on, they went to the special unit, interacted with the kids and played Antakshari with them. Big food boxes were given to the students of the special unit which contained two big packets of biscuits, a one liter juice packet and a woolen cap. The students of the Special Unit and Learning Center then assembled in the lobby area where the students of St. Mary School presented a cultural program. They played guitar, sang songs and presented dance items- both contemporary and classical – Bharatnatyam and Kathak. There was also a quiz competition. The students gave a tiffin box and a food packet containing a fruity, a patty and a cake to each of the students of the learning Center.
The refreshment packs and gifts were collectively organized by the school and by the students. The program was aimed at making the students coming from affluent families see and understand the difficulties and hardships of children coming from the economically and socially background families.
A big thank you card was presented to the school group and school counselor Ms. Reena on behalf of Deepalaya.
